Getting Ready for Making Tax Digital

Making Tax Digital is changing how records must be kept and how tax is reported, and solid digital bookkeeping is the key to being ready.

From 6 April 2026, sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 must keep digital records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC. The threshold falls to £30,000 from April 2027 and £20,000 from April 2028. VAT-registered businesses are already within Making Tax Digital.
